University Co-operation : Cameroon and the UK are Hand in Glove

The Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Jacques FAME NDONGO, granted an audience to the United Kingdom High Commissioner to Cameroon, H.E. Mr. Matt David WOODS, on the morning of Wednesday 9 April 2025. The meeting took place in conference room 1036 of the Ministry of Higher Education.
Having welcomed his guest to Cameroon, the Minister of State praised the excellent quality of diplomatic relations between the two countries. As regards higher education, this co-operation, which dates back more than sixty years, is underpinned by the Cultural Co-operation Agreement signed on 8 August 1963 in London between Cameroon and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
During this audience, the Chancellor of the Academic Orders presented to the British diplomat the revolution underway in Cameroon’s university map, as well as the new orientation aimed at bringing university and the business world.

Upon his arrival in Cameroon in October 2024, the High Commissioner took this step in keeping with the protocol but also with a clear desire to boost university co-operation between the two friendly nations. With this in mind, the issue of scholarships was raised. Cameroonian students still make little use of the opportunities offered by the Commonwealth and Chevening Scholarships.
To overcome this lack of information, H.E. Matt David WOODS advocated setting up a network to connect Cameroonian and British Universities. This network, intended to encourage the sharing of knowledge and expertise, especially in promising and innovative sectors, will be subject to joint efforts to ensure its effective implementation.
